Photograph Selected for ArtScape 2018

Since 2009, the Shenandoah Arts Council (ShenArts) has partnered with the Old Town Development Board (OTDB) to create an outdoor gallery in the historic district of downtown Winchester, Virginia. Artists of all ages are invited to participate in a juried art competition. Selected works are reproduced on banners that hang on light posts throughout the downtown area from April through December. The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley provides support for this program as the host sponsor, displaying the original works of art in its Art in the Halls program.

In 2017, I submitted into the competition, but didn’t make the cut. As Thomas H. Palmer originally said, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again”.  So I submitted three photographs for 2018, and alas, received the following letter confirming one of my photographs was selected for the ArtScape project.

Lake Holiday Sunset
“On behalf of the Shenandoah Arts Council, I am pleased to inform you that your work, “Lake Holiday Sunset,” was selected for the ArtScape 2018 Old Town Winchester banner project.

Your artwork will be on display on a banner in downtown Winchester starting in April and will also be part of the ArtScape Originals exhibit at Art in the Halls at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley in April 2018.

There were 186 works submitted by 68 artists this year. It’s exciting to watch as artist response and community support continue to grow for the ArtScape project, now in its ninth year!”

Needless to say, I’m pretty excited about the selection, and blessed to live in Lake Holiday, Virginia, where I can capture such beauty.  I’m also excited to be a part of a very talented group of artists who were selected this year, and in previous years.  I can’t wait to see the final product downtown, and the 20″ x 30″ metal print that will be on display, and for sale, at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley.
