Design Selected for Woodstock Art Project

Proud to announce that Erik Michael Photography’s submission for the Woodstock, VA Traffic Control Equipment Box Wraps, was awarded as one of the four artists to have their work displayed. The Town of Woodstock was looking for designs for four traffic control signal boxes on Main Street through Town, a project in partnership with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), and a way to dress up the control boxes and showcase art and culture throughout the Town of Woodstock.

2 images used to create the final art with the spec overlay.

The theme for the project is “Words That Move You.”  A list of famous quotes by various icons was supplied to choose from. Erik selected “Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost” by J.R.R. Tolkien. Quite fitting for the design submitted – photographs of a slightly hidden underpass located in Woodstock, VA, a place Erik passed by on a regular basis and eventually “wandered” to, and captured, on a few occasions during different times of the year.  It’s kind of a surreal spot, from a distance it draws you in, and once you get up close and inside the tunnel, you instantly feel like you are in a new world all by yourself. The cold winter months were especially unique and large icicles formed from the top of the tunnel and cascaded down. The making for a mysterious, borderline creepy, but very cool image.

In fact, one of those many images taken at this particular location, just sold at his current local exhibit being displayed at Westminster-Canterbury (shown below), which will display through September 12, 2017. It is quite the unique hidden gem in the area, stop by and check it out if you get the chance. The final installation for all of the control box art is slated for late Summer, early Fall, 2017.  If you’re in the area keep an eye out.
